last day! LAST DAY WHY. i want to go back already.

day 4 was mostly a travel day on the train, then outside of the train for mystery-reasons for 2 hours then a surprise bus from bellingham home getting us in real late (for which amtrak gave us travel vouchers for the amount we paid. next trip?).

we got in one quick burrito meal before we left. we split a burrito with rice, beans, soycurls, avocado and veggies and another burrito with most of those same fillings but with chile relleno in the middle. it was good and filling. here are the remains:

no more brews to report for this day but we did get free pint glasses from Powell’s (it was their anniversary) to bring home and have future brews.

here’s the glass, pictured with veggie slices that i was eating in bed.

we also got some food together for the train (which is still part of vacation eating). we brought a loaf of good olive bread, sundried tomato hummus, the field roast slices, stonewall jerquee, almonds and chips leftover from one of our drunk nights. and lots of coffee and lots of water.

AND SO ENDS THE VEGAN FOOD ADVENTURE

we spent nearly the entire trip buzzed, full and sweaty.  A ROUSING SUCCESS.

bummed to be done, but glad to be back to this guy.

day 3! the day i ate the most. we really crammed it in.

first off is breakfast obviously. OBVIOUSLY.

we went to Paradox. we were more reasonable than the day before. we split 2 breakfasts 2 ways. we got a basic breakfasty thing with biscuits and gravy hashbrowns, tempeh bacon and sausage. the gravy was great but the biscuits were slightly better the day before. the tempeh bacon was great. then we got a benedict style concoction on sourdough with broccoli and lots of vegetables (because we needed them badly) and a hollandaise that was sooo goood.

benny!

bfast!

then we went to Exiled records for shopping time then brews at the bar next to it. here is a picture of mark’s eyebrows drinking a beer.

there were these weird berry/flower things on the ground everywhere and they are beautiful! does anyone know what they are?

then after some solid wandering we headed up to Sweet Hereafter (a vegan bar run by the same people as Bye and Bye) for lunch and beers in time for happy hour. i had an ESB that was REALLY really tasty, i don’t remember who it was brewed by. i believe the other was a hef or maybe some special summer ale and it was refreshing and great.

we had a buffalo sub made with soycurls and HOLY SHIT IT IS SO GOOD. we also shared a jerk bowl: brown rice, jerk tofu, coconut kale, beans, avocado and a side of broccoli so we don’t die. this was also super super good and probably without it i would have felt like garbage.

we sat in the window and hung out here for quite a well, drinking beer and watching this huge bear dog outside, who i eventually had to hang out with him. he was a real dreamboat.

then since we were too full to eat more we kept drinking. we wandered over to a bar that i think was called Bare Bones, they had picnic tables and an extended happy hour so we stopped in.

the gentleman had a miller high life (the can is reason enough) and i had a watermelon fizz because i love watermelon and i love gin and i love american pours. this thing was more than half hooch. it was great.

more wandering, more sweating. did i mention it was stinking hot out this whole trip and we walked everywhere? i was into it, don’t get me wrong, but the heat and all the food/drinks can really tire you out.

we crammed in one last meal for the day back at hungry tiger because it was nearby and tasty. two bites in i realized i couldn’t eat any more food or i would throw up but i tired really hard. i didn’t make much of  dent in this meal. we got a burger with pickles and cheesey sauce and tempeh bacon and the bits i ate were good. we also got a scramble AGAIN because we are insane and it was really good but again, i was actually going to explode.

we were also drinking more beer, i had a hefeweizen.

then a walk across the bridge back to where we were staying. our bellies were insane and huge so we put them to bed. and so ends day 3.

okay so friday was day 2 of our eating extravaganza drinking extravaganza. it went like this:

wake up in our room at the hostel. LOOK AT THIS LIGHT!

breakfast! we went to Hungry Tiger Too and ordered an insane amount of food. We got 3 meals for the 2 of us and we ate everything, and it was all really really good. On the menu was chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy and a greek scramble with spinach, tomatoes, kalamatas with hashbrowns.

biscuits and gravy (we ate A LOT of biscuits and gravy on this trip and these were the best)

chicken-fried tofu and waffles

the scramble

the damage

the effect

after a long coffee rest we went to Food Fight to get vegan treats to bring home.

the booty: soycurls, aardvard hot sauce, many jerkeys, vegg (i will post about this soon) and field roast slices. we picked up some Stumptown beans nextdoor at Sweetpea Vegan Bakery (and had more coffee and read the paper, that breakfast was exhausting).

then across the bridge to Powell’s where we spent many hours and too many dollars. on the way we went to voodoo for the mandatory doughnut. the line was short so we seized the opportunity.

later in the night we went to Sizzle Pie for some vegan slices and caesar salad so that we could go to Henry’s tavern and have all the tasty brews. they have a gazillion beers on tap and a frosted bartop.

here’s the eugene city orange wheat

the next thing we did blew my mind. we went to see a movie (sleepwalk with me) and had GOOD BEER LEGALLY IN A THEATRE and ordered popcorn and they had nutritional yeast on the counter! AT THE THEATRE! 2 KINDS! WTF. AND THERE WERE 3 ADORABLE DOGS OUTSIDE.

they had a Ninkasi Believer Double Red Ale that was super delicious. so delicious we bought a bottle afterwards and brought it back to our place.

day 2 OVER.

Then to Bye and Bye, a vegan bar. We were still too full to eat which sucks because they have meatball subs and collard greensbut I had a really tasty Victrola

The most delicious beer of the day was had at a place called Crowbar, which we went into only because it was across the street from the Grass Widow show we were going to and had a white IPA. It was dark and my eyes are not what they once were but I think the brewery is called Chain Breaker and it was super super tasty summertimebeer joy.
